Tap changer

Tap changer is a key device in power systems used to adjust the transformer’s output voltage. Its main function is to change the number of effective turns on the primary winding (usually the high-voltage side) by switching the winding taps, thereby adjusting the transformer’s turns ratio and keeping the secondary voltage close to its rated value.

Applications:

On-load tap changers: Widely used in urban power grids, industrial load centers, and transmission substations where voltage quality is important, they can achieve a voltage adjustment range of ±15% with a switching time of less than 200ms.

Off-load tap changers: Mostly used in rural distribution transformers and for seasonal voltage adjustments where voltage changes are infrequent.Smart grids: Modern on-load tap changers can work with automatic voltage regulators (AVRs) to achieve adaptive voltage adjustment.
