Silicon Steel

Silicon steel sheets (also called electrical silicon steel or electrical steel) are an alloy steel with a silicon content of 0.8% to 4.8%. Adding silicon to the steel can significantly improve its magnetic properties, increase magnetic permeability, and reduce core losses. It is the mainstream material for transformer cores and directly determines a transformer’s efficiency, size, and temperature rise.

Types and Selection:

– Grain-Oriented Silicon Steel (GO): The grains are aligned in a specific direction, giving the best magnetic performance along the rolling direction. Widely used in power transformers and large distribution transformers, it has high efficiency and low loss.

– Non-Grain-Oriented Silicon Steel (NGO): Isotropic with uniform magnetic properties, lower cost, used in small to medium transformers or general-purpose applications.
